The Mantra by Thought Space Athletics will fly straight at a manageable speed for new players but will have a more understable flight for experience throwers. It can be used for precision drives or for anhyzer lines and power rollers. It's an all-purpose driver with great glide that feels and flies wonderfully.

This is another winner from TSA! I really love(d) this disc: I say it in past tense because just after my field test and before I ever got my name/phone number on it or even played a single hole with it, someone else in the family lost it!! :  (  But its flight and distance were excellent. It was almost instantly a new favorite fairway driver: I tested it together with similiar discs, and it was giving me the best distance, straightest flight, and best consistency of any of them. I'll have to watch for a sale to grab another one come Black Friday! : )

The slight understability of the Mantra should make it readily usable by beginners -- if not right at the start, shortly after they've started getting a bit more experience throwing. I've mentioned it in other reviews, too, but I love the Ethos plastic! I'm a fan of the Champion-type plastics from the various brands, and it might not be out of the question to say that this is the best of them that I've tried. I haven't had them all that long, so I can't yet say how durable it truly is, but I like the look, feel, grip, and release of all the Ethos-based discs I now have -- and the TSA designs are generally pretty cool too. Out in the fairways on sunny days, these almost seem luminescent, they stand out so nicely and brightly.

What more can I say about the greatest of all discs?? This disc is what made me love disc golf. I thought the sport was fun before, but I never could get any distance since I was using discs that were too fast. But when I got this disc, it was euphoria. This disc flight as a beginner was straight, glidey, and far. I knew what the disc was going to do, and was using it on almost every tee shot. This disc is so good!

As my technique and arm speed improved, the Mantra was not left behind. This disc has a wonderful flight with its understable turn. And beautiful hyzerflips make for a gorgeous straightline flight. My beat-in Mantra is now extremely flippy and useful for turnover shots.

    This disc is the best!

For beginners who have begun to work on improving their backhand technique, this disc will be an awakening.

I have tested the Mantra in two plastics, one being Ethos and the other being Ethereal. I have more experience with the Ethos, and I believe this run is less stable than the Ethereal. This review is from the perspective of the Ethos plastic, but if this description sounds too flippy for your liking, try something in Ethereal, because it is more stable.

I really enjoyed the flight of this disc when I finally learned how it worked. It was definitely understable and is great for a shot that you need to hold a long backhand turnover. I typically throw this disc on a small hyzer and watch it flip up, glide, and then continue turning to the right, almost mimicking a RHFH shot. It does have a little stability at the end of the flight to help level it out without burning, which is nice. This disc also flies well on big, high anhyzer lines when your objective is scooting a long distance to the right (on RHBH).

    TLDR:

I recommend the Ethos Mantra as an understable 9-speed driver. Buy it. Now. Seriously.

    About Me:

I am a longtime recreational player. I throw an even mix of righthand back/forehand and drive about 300-350'. I throw 170+ weight discs, my fastest discs are speed 9, and I don't throw discs with relative stability (the sum of turn/fade) greater than 2 for anything other than utility shots or strong headwinds.

    Why This Disc?/Comparison:

I picked up a max weight Ethos Mantra because I love my Nebula Ethereal Mantra. It goes in my most US 9-speed slot behind my Saint or Valkyrie (stable) and before my most OS 8/7 speeds (Terra or Instinct). I've tried less stable/more US (less than -1 relative stability) 9-speeds in the past (Sidewinder, Heat, etc.), but I typically found them too unpredictable.

I wanted an Ethos as a backup for my Nebula because TSA discs can get insanely pricey during dry spells between runs. I also hoped the Ethos might be a tick more stable than the Nebula just to have a little variation, but it seems to be the same. The Ethos replaced a Pinnacle Bandit as the backup for my Nebula, and, while I have nothing bad to say about the flight of the Bandit, the Mantra is obviously far more aesthetically pleasing.

    Aesthetic/Feel:

As usual, TSA absolutely slayed with the Geisha 2.0 stamp on the third run of Ethos Mantras. The plastic itself is gorgeous, sporting a few metallic flecks and nice little swirls/spokes. The wing feels like a typical understable 9-speed and the rim is machined to perfection; no sharp spots or excess flashing to be found.

    Performance:

The Ethos Mantra is my farthest-flying disc. It leans just enough towards stable as an US disc to still be useful in mild headwinds for buttery 75% power hyzerflips, which it also excels at in no-wind and tailwind conditions with a little more power. At full power or in stronger headwinds it can carry just a bit too far right, but I'm usually so stoked with the overall distance that it rarely matters.

For long turnovers, the Mantra is tops. Thrown flat, it will turn for days without becoming a wheel. I've even managed to use it forehand on a hyzer angle, employing the higher torque of the forehand to flip it for long, smooth turnover shots that end left.

Finally, though it's not a shot I employ very often, I value the Mantra for its excellent roller-ability when thrown on a steep anhyzer.

    Pros/Cons:

    + Distance for days

    + Hyzerflip and turnover machine

    - It's so pretty that you may be tempted to hang it instead of throw it (don't!)

    - The length between runs turns these discs into virtual gold during dry spells, which can be a pain-in-the-wallet if you lose one at the wrong time

    Does It Make The Bag?

I wouldn't go to the course without my Mantra.

I've been playing disc golf for about 11 months now. I'm 53 and my arm is not exactly a cannon. This being the case, I've slowly been acquiring and testing a bunch of understable 9 speed discs--a speed I can manage and discs that will do the work for me.

Thought Space Athletics produces several of the discs that I find I can throw well and consistently, including the Votum, Omen, and (now) the Mantra. When this thing dropped, I picked up four, two in Ethos, one each in Aura and Nebula Aura. As per usual, the TSA plastics are really lovely in the hand and the stamps are freakin' beautiful. Kudos to whomever does their graphic design work. Top notch stuff.

I took an Ethos Mantra (167g) out to the course yesterday. Got in a few practice throws and then got to make a few throws with it during the round. It reminds me a bit of the Westside Hatchet but it seems glidier to me, and with what seemed like a more consistent relase for me. I don't throw that far, but the Mantra was getting a nice flip up from a slight hyzer release (RHBH), and then just riding that glide to a gentle fading finish. I only threw one RHFH toss but the Mantra seemed to handle a flat release without turning over too much, at least for my noodle arm, and then finishing with a similar gentle fade at the end. I think it could be a really nice disc for touchier shots once I've gotten used to it.

This disc should work well for anyone with moderate arm speed and some consistency in their release angles, either backhand or forehand. Try it out!

As a forehand-dominant player who's trying to develop a strong backhand, this disc is the first driver to feel entirely comfortable. It's understable enough for even a modest amount of arm speed to hyzerflip to flat and I can echo what other reviewers have said about its glide. If you get it up to flat, it goes for days. Add in that gorgeous stamp and durable plastic, and you've got a winner!

I love this disc. Just overhauled my game and transitioned from a forehand only driver to backhand. As I started getting familiar with the understable camp, I first bought this. I chose it over the Latitude 64 Bryce. The Ethos plastic has a great grip and the flight is reliable. The artwork is also beautiful. It is currently my favorite disc in my bag.

My flight numbers are based on a beginner perspective. As I have grown with this disc and it has broken in, the turn is a bit more aggressive and the fade is truer to manufactor rating but I still stand by my rating.

I cannot rave enough about this disc. I have it in all three plastics. The Ethereal is the most understable of the three plastics, imo. The Ethos plastic is my favorite. It holds a great line. I can throw this farther than most of my other discs. Those two things alone make this a disc I always have with me. The art of very well done too, as a bonus. I cannot wait for TSA to release more molds.

I can rip this disc. By far one of my farthest throwing control drivers. I'd compare it to the gateway spear with less fade. The ethos plastic is a little grippier than I expected as well given the rating here. Need to beat this disc in more to see more understable flights, but I think it is true to it's numbers. Throwing this primarily RHBH. Have yet to forehand.

This came as my mystery disc in an order I placed a couple months ago and went straight in the bag. I don't have a big arm and regularly put this out to about 275 on a nice S curve RHBH.  Forehand, it provides me a nice understable option when I wan to get something out with a little turn and no real hook at the end.  The stamp is amazing, and the Ethos plastic matches the quality.  Not for big arms, unless you want a roller disc, which this does very nicely as well.  It's the first disc I was able to put any distance on before it hit the ground and get a nice roll from it..

The plastic is amazing. Very good grip. Gummy.

    Love the Mantra Stamp.

Very controllable. Determine amount of turn with degree of hyzer release. Great in the woods.

    Good first driver.

This is a great disc for hyzerflips and long turnover lines. The Ethos plastic is grippy, durable, and provides for easy distance. While I do not have a big arm, I can put these out to about 350ft for a more controlled distance line with much less effort. I believe Thought Space Athletics has a hit here with the Mantra.

For beginners, I believe this would be a great first distance driver that can still prove valuable with a more understable flight pattern as you improve. Definitely recommend giving it a try!

Update: Been throwing this disc for a few months now and am very pleased. This is a great disc. Dead stright with a lot of glide. I thought this would be a disc that I would use for anhyzer shots or shots that I needed to finish left of center (RHBH) but honestly it is striaght as an arrow. It's like a longer Pure.

I am a senior grandmaster - am 3 player with a slower arm speed fell in love with this disc right away. The plastic looks amazing, the grip and feel are awesome. The artwork is off the charts. But the flight is what really counts. I throw all extra lightweight, extra understable stuff and found this disc to have a touch of stability. So I took it to a tournament where the course is on an old landfill so it is wide open and high up and always windy. This disc flew perfectly in the wind for me, better than I've ever thrown. Just understable enough for me to throw it and stable enough to deal with the wind. I took my card against young guys who can throw twice as far as me, mostly because of this disc.  Great disc.

Plastic is like Champion/Opto/Lucid and as of now it flies pretty straight with a little HST and the tiniest fade back to end middle of the fairway. I'm expecting it to beat in and be exactly like the picture here showing the flight path but not sure how long it will last flying like that before it turns into a roller disc or something that you have to start on hyzer and flip to flat.                                                                                                                                                     I really like this disc and it's found a spot in my bag. I was most surprised by the distance that this disc flies - not sure that I've ever got a 9 speed to 350' before this disc.                                                                                                                                                    Looks Awesome, Flies Awesome and Feels Awesome in the hand. I highly recommend this disc for all skill levels.

The Mantra is a great debut disc release from Thought Space Athletics. I'll admit that I was mostly excited for the Thought Space Athletics disc brand for the sake of the ultra-creative stamp artwork that would inevitably find its way onto the discs. But hey, this thing is a great flyer as well!

It feels like the last couple of years have presented a LOT of new disc molds that focus on overstability, with a ton of fade. Power throwers have had a hayday with discs like the DD3, Emperor, Raider, and others. But most of us have a lot more luck with discs that don't take as much power. The MANTRA is a great driver for the rest of us! It has great glide and can be used for shorter or longer throws. Those who throw with more power can hyzer-flip this thing onto a straight-line course or anhyzer it for a more understable flight.

The plastic feels great, the stamp design looks awesome, and it's a really good disc that fills a great spot in the bag-- a spot too often overlooked these days by the propensity to praise the "meathooks" in the market. This is a great driver for newer players who want to get more distance without a lot of experience.

The Mantra immediately made my bag. I have tried it in both the VIP edition Ethereal plastic as well as the available for retail public Ethos plastic.

First off, both these plastic blends are amazing. These just might be the most "premium" plastic blends on the market. They are among the best looking and best feeling plastic blends in disc golf.

I would describe Ethereal plastic (the one that was used as the initial release available to VIP club members) as a cross between G-Star and Latitude 64 Goldline plastic. This plastic looks amazing with a glimmery shine to it while providing excellent grip and adequate stiffness.

Ethos plastic is like a cross between Kastaplast K1 and Latittude 64 Opto. Normally I don't like the hard most durable blends that disc manufacturers make, they don't have enough grip and I regularly release these discs too early. Ethos plastic is a littler softer and  very grippy, almost as much as Kastaplast but with the nice translucent look of a clear plastic. The Day Glo of the disc I have works so well for late afternoon rounds right before dark.

In terms of flight, I'd classify the Mantra as a distance driver for non power players. The rim is definitely thicker than what I consider a fairway driver. It's thicker than any Innova made speed nine disc, so I would give it a speed rating of 10 or 11. The Mantra is pretty understable and exhibits high speed turn without needing a lot of speed and tower. I'm able to push the Mantra out to about 350 feet of distance with a nice hyzer flip s-curve. Of the two discs I have, the Ethos plastic is slightly more understable than Ethereal.

For some players the flight of the Mantra could be a game changer, but for most it's probably just another good disc that can fit that slot of easy to get distance with without having to throw your arm out. Where Thought Space stands out, and why I give this disc a 5 Star rating is because of the feel and appearance of the plastic. Thought Space began as a stamp designer, their artwork is unmatched and so you know that will be a big focus in their line of discs. The triple foil artwork makes the discs look so amazing, and it will be exciting to see how their stamps will change over time with each of their disc runs.

Overall, I'm really excited about the Thought Space brand and what it will be able to do by providing beautiful discs in amazing plastics. If you're looking for a great new plastic blend to try with a different feel and want an amazing looking/possibly collectible disc, try out the TSA Mantra.

got an early release of this through vip club with infinite discs, it’s an instant favorite.  The flight path is just as the illustration indicates, with ease.  I’m ordering a few more as it’s a definite must have for my bag now and the first one is probably better kept as a collectors item.
