The Ascent is one of two fairway drivers Vibram currently makes. The Ascent is an overstable driver, good for headwind throws and strategic fades. It has a very slight turn and substantial fade. According to Vibram, if you can throw this disc 56 miles per hour it should turn 4 degrees and then fade back 15 degrees. Like all Vibram discs, the Ascent is made out of quality, durable rubber. There are two variations: X-Link, and X-Link firm. Like the name says, the firm rubber is a little stiffer.

I had a 167 gram x-link medium ascent (unfortunately recently lost) which was one of my most reliable drivers.  It was what I would describe as a moderately overstable control driver.  It was my go to driver in the woods as I could throw it full power rhbh and it would turn only minimally.  It would mostly go straight for a good distance before a healthy fade.  If I hit a tree, the x-link material held up well and I really didn't notice much difference in flight characteristics over my time with the disc.  It was overstable enough to flex out of an anhyzer throw.  Thrown forehand it would turn a little more at full power, but it was still capable in this role.  It flew fairly similar to a tee bird with more fade.

i have an ascent in medium X link that is 170. i have been throwing it for about 2 weeks now. its very overstable and i have to put a lot on it to get it to fly straight. mostly i throw RHBH but have been experimenting with flicking this disc with limited success. i have never been good at forehand throws but i have done better with this disc then most others i have tried. my best throws with the ascent have come from flexing it. not a huge distance disc but a very consistent disc with a dependable strong fade. over all i am very happy with the ascent and will be keeping it in my bag. one more thing, i have 4 vibram disc in both medium and firm X link and despite punishing them with trees, rocks, thorns and pavement, they still show virtually no signs of damage. my next vibram disc is going to be the trak.

I love the ascent. I decided to drop high speed stuff for awhile and picked up a bunch of fairway drivers. The ascent has been a favorite. It's very predictable and does what I need. The internet seems to claim vibram has indestructible, super grippy discs. I'd say the grip isn't any better than star or esp and for being one of the newest in my bag it probably looks the worst damage wise. It really doesn't seem to take a hit very well so that is disappointing. Overall it is a great disc and until I can find a fairway from a different company that flies as well in a better plastic I'll keep the ascent around.

I got mine from the birdie bash, and hated it. Playing an entire round with this disc is just a bad idea. It is very overstable, and has stayed that way through some beating lately. It has some purpose that has gotten it in my bag. It is a fairway/distance driver, and can give you a solid meathook for the holes where you need it, or a decent spike to get you out of trouble.
