Ok, first off I got my #2 Driver on the cheap as a factory second (triple stamped) on the cheap and snagged it up to try it out. On looking up info on it I found it to be an 8 Speed, 5 Glide, -2 Turn, and 2 Fade. I have been looking for an 8 Speed disc to fit in my bag to try one out, so I snagged this for about $5. What could it hurt?
As per usual with me regarding new discs, I took it to a field to try it out and check the characteristics of the disc and if it was indeed damaged or just truly a bad stamp. To be honest, I have no idea, but I will try to explain.
I am a beginner with an arm that can throw a Valkyrie, Beast, or Wraith some 250'+. However, either I am not getting this disc up to speed for an 8 disc, or it is not an 8 by Innova standards, or even an 11 for that matter. When I throw a bigger fairway driver (FD) or distance driver (DD) I get the characteristics of each of the previous discs named. Yet, with the #2 all I get is a longer, far longer, Teebird (7 5 0 2) with the #2 fading to the left at the end of flight and zero turn. Is this that I am A). not getting this disc up to speed, B). it is damaged, or C). it is just not "beat in" enough. Of what, I am unsure and will post another review in time once it has been used for enough holes to get that "used and worn in" feel to it. Right now I am not unhappy as I have yet to turn and burn it like I can my Teebird, and it does fly well if it does not follow its flight ratings.
Secondly, this disc is kind of grippy, yet also is somewhat smooth to the feel. There is a small amount of bead on the rim not unlike an Innova Roc, but far smaller. I actually have to work to feel for it, but it is there. This disc does glide well and I used it for a few holes where I needed a long glide and good left fade at the end with the #2 giving me a birdie opportunity on a few occasions as a result. However, it is touchy in its release.
Like I noted on my review of the Rubber Putter by this same company, the disc seems to want to jump out of your hand and is very nose dependent. You raise the nose just a bit too much and it will catch wind, turn over and die. Too low of a nose on release and you will dig dirt about 100' out. Yet, it you release it on center nose it will go out and land with a slight slide and skip forward. When release nose center it will also fight a decent headwind, but you must be mindful of that. It will show your throwing weakness quick enough if you do not.
In the end I am not unhappy with this disc even if the flight characteristics are not exact. I think it is faster than an 8 Speed, but I left the rating the same and adjusted my ratings accordingly otherwise. Not a bad disc to try out if you want a longer Teebird, but have a good arm and some accuracy first. Not that mine is the best, hence why I know what I do. (Hahaha!)
