I started the game with a DX teebird and i've thrown Teebirds my entire time playing disc golf. To say it is my comfort disc in an understatement, and when i heard of what Legacy does with Rivals i was always curious knowing that they were considered as good as some of my best Teebirds. The Phantom warrior feels very similar to a Teebird to me being based on the rival that makes sense it generally had a very flat profile to it in the max weight. The plastic feel on this disc is almost excessively stiff which bodes poorly in the 4 season climate i live in but I did get to throw it on a warmer day as well as some below freezing days. My Phantom Warriors are 175g max weight.
The Phantom Warrior was a little surprising for me. Knowing Drew is a power player i came into this disc with a preconception this disc would be massively overstable and this disc is quite the opposite it is a super straight flying hold any angle disc fresh out of the box. The Phantom warrior has a very nice long straight flight with a gentle fade at the end and it has very workable high speed stability, i found myself able to put this disc on a considerable anhyzer and it would pan out very nicely while not cutting my shots short when throwing on Hyzer. The hand feel on this disc seems to be more shallow than my Teebird3's and even my flat top AJ teebirds but maintained a similar level of stability, so if you aren't a fan of the taller profile this would be a great fit. This disc forehand doesn't quite have the torque resistance i thought it would but if your forehand is smooth it will glide fantastically for you.
The Phantom Warrior handles most wind conditions with ease, i found it stood up well into a headwind and had great glide for tailwind shots as well.
The phantom warrior might be a bit more overstable than necessary for a beginner but this disc will last a long time (assuming you don't lose it) and i would say this would be a fine first driver for most players if they want something that has that very stiff hand feel, otherwise a Rival in another plastic (or teebird for that matter) would be a great substitute.
Overall, the Phantom Warrior is a pretty good disc. I feel as though the plastic feel for me is really what holds this disc back from near perfect scores as its very stiff feel limits the time I personally would be willing to use it to only the summer months in my area which is not as useful to me when I play year round. If you don't have a problem with the very stiff feel of this disc it is one heck of a flyer for a speed 7 and should definitely be something you pick up.
