The pure is a great, neutral putter and one of the most popular throwing putters out there. There are a couple reasons for this. 1) It doesn't really feel like a putter. 2) It doesn't really fly like a putter in the distance category. So, if you love throwing mids but don't really jive with putters you've thrown, this disc is worth a shot!
I started with a Zero Hard Pure to test the mold. I figured it's cheaper, slightly less stable, and is a basier plastic which I prefer in putters and mids. They are very flat topped and have a low profile, not absurdly low like a colt or stud, but not nearly as beefy as an Aviar, Warden, insert your favorite beadless putter. The wing profile really reminds me of a mid, kind of shaped like Innova 3-top molds (e.g. Mako3), with the rim width of a putter. In my hand, I have no urge to putt this disc, it just feels too fast. It feels great with a forehand grip, which I'll get to.
Flight wise the disc started out very similar to the DX grid stamped aviars I was throwing, just faster. Very little left to right movement, and after a little wear the Zero Hard Pure doesn't fade at all, it simply hovers down to the ground. Think how PMcB threw a Nova in years past, but faster. It really didn't take long for this disc to develop some turn. It's steadied at -2, -3 and further tree kicks aren't doing much to affect its understability. So, it's turned into a fantastic hyzerflip or turnover putter. The great thing is that on a hyzerflip, after it steadies flat it will still "hover" to the ground. Definitely a fun disc to throw, but I was not impressed with just how fast it became so flippy. A DX aviar would last more than twice as long before this level of turn. I've tried a pure in opto as well, and loved it as a driving putter off the tee. Definitely great for those shots which need to be 10-20 feet short of where you can consistently get your mids. The opto pure is noticeably domier, more stable, and fills up the hand a bit more.
As far as upshots go, the pure just carries too far unless you're going for a straight midrange type of shot. I have never been comfortable with controlling small distances with this discs. The Zero Hard plastic is a little too stiff for my liking for approach shots, but that's a personal preference thing.
Now that this thing is really flippy it has been awesome for developing touch forehand shots. In all stages of wear this is a great disc to flick, it just requires finesse.
The flashing is very bad on the hard pures. Even after extended pavement, I mean use, it still catches my skin. I would really love to give the pure a try in zero medium as I think it would make for a more versatile disc.
